Enron Raptors
Problem
The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre & Dance required three velociraptor costumes for a production of Lucy Preeble’s play, ENRON. None of the production shops had the capacity to produce the costumes. Costumes also required remote control lighting.
Solution
Karen Maness and I recruited an interdisciplinary group of students into an independent study seminar course. Multiple entertainment professionals were brought in to inspire learning, enabling students to draw upon their existing competencies and interests.
Results
Students self-organized into teams to design solutions, choose materials, and determine fabrication schedules and project milestones.
Three costumes were delivered on time and under budget.
Enron Raptor continues to be a recruiting tool for the College of Fine Arts.
