Practical Special Effects

Overview

I co-developed this experiential undergraduate course with Karen Maness from the Department of Theatre & Dance and Ben Bays and Depak Chetty from UT's Department of Radio Television Film in partnership with UT Cockrell School of Engineering.

Our goal was to test concepts of interdisciplinary collaboration that we observed in the Enron Raptor project the previous year by specifically targeting undergraduates from the arts and engineering to develop a practical special effect for a short film.

The course was funded by a grant from the UT Center for Teaching and Learning.

This course also served as the research subject for Dr. Jaons Harron's PhD dissertation, "Bridging disciplines : a case study of interdisciplinary design-based learning between undergraduate artists and engineers."
